Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission Approves $2,175,000 for Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens

Columbus, Ohio The Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission approved $2,175,000 at its quarterly meeting today for Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, located in Akron.

Designated a National Historic Landmark, Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens consists of a 65-room Tudor Revival manor house, a gate lodge, a carriage house (featuring a museum store and café), a conservatory and Gothic palm house, and 70 acres of landscaped grounds and formal gardens. Built between 1912 and 1915, Stan Hywet's Manor House is recognized as the premiere example of Tudor Revival architecture in the U.S.  The capital improvements project, which will be funded in part by state appropriations, involves foundation waterproofing and drain restoration, and restoration of the West Terrace and West Overlook using original blueprints and salvaged materials.  The adjacent cisterns and overgrown Japanese Garden will also be restored. Project costs total $3.29 million.

The Commission approval, coupled with the signing of legal agreements, allows Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens to be reimbursed on a pro rata basis with funds appropriated in Am. Sub. H.B. 675 of the 124th General Assembly, and Am. Sub. H.B. 16 and Am. Sub. H.B. 699 of the 126th General Assembly. Williams and Bryan C. Williams.
