Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission Approves
$300,000 for Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage

Columbus, Ohio –
The Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission approved $300,000 at its quarterly meeting today for the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage.

The Museum will utilize state capital funds to complete several enhancements to the exhibit and lobby areas of the museum, including an interactive lobby database system, a gallery hanging system, and a theatrical sound system in the lobby, which will enable the museum to host additional large-group community events. Automatic emergency control features will be added to the entry doors, and an illuminated monument entry sign will be installed near the roadway at the main entrance to the Museum. The Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage opened in 2005, and recognizes the achievements of Cleveland’s Jewish community through exhibitions, films, oral histories, photographs and artifacts. The museum includes the Temple-Tifereth Israel Gallery, an internationally recognized collection of Judaica, and a special exhibition gallery featuring national and international exhibitions.

The Commission approval, coupled with the signing of legal agreements, allows the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage to be reimbursed on a pro rata basis with funds appropriated in Am. Sub. H.B. 562 of the 127th General Assembly. Cuyahoga County General Assembly members who voted in favor of the bill include Senators Timothy Grendell, Dale Miller, Thomas Patton and Shirley Smith; Representatives Barbara Boyd, Armond Budish, Michael DeBose, Timothy DeGeeter, Matthew Dolan, Mike Foley, Josh Mandel, Michael Skindell, Sandra Williams, and Kenneth Yuko; former Senators Lance Mason and Robert Spada; and former Representatives Jennifer Brady and Eugene Miller.
