Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission approved $140,000 at its quarterly meeting today for the Holmes County Historical Society.
The Holmes County Historical Society operates the Victorian House Museum, which houses special exhibits and artifacts related to Holmes County history. The museum’s public programs include lectures, concerts and special events. Utilizing the state appropriation, the Historical Society plans to replace an asphalt shingle roof that was installed in the early 1970s on the historic Queen Anne-style house with a more historically accurate slate roof. Three of the house’s chimneys will be re-pointed prior to the roof replacement, and the Historical Society also plans to purchase and install an emergency power generator.
The Commission approval, coupled with the signing of legal agreements, allows the Holmes County Historical Society to be reimbursed on a pro rata basis with funds appropriated in Am. Sub. H.B. 699 of the 126th General Assembly. Holmes County General Assembly members who voted in favor of the bill include Senator Ron Amstutz and Representative Bob Gibbs.
