Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission Approves $150,000 for Trumbull County Historical Society

Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission approved $150,000 at its quarterly meeting today for the Trumbull County Historical Society.

The Trumbull County Historical Society will utilize the state appropriation for improvements to the John Stark Edwards House and Museum in Warren. Built in 1807, the Edwards House is the oldest home in Trumbull County. Operated by the Society as a historic house museum, rooms in the Edwards House depict the lives of its residents at various periods, from pioneer days to the late nineteenth century. The project will involve both interior and exterior improvements. Interior work includes plasterwork and painting of ceilings and walls, new window treatments, wood floor repairing and refinishing, and the installation of a new furnace, hot water tank, and sump pump system in the basement. Exterior work includes a new roof, painting of the house, repairing all window sashes and installing storm windows, installation of a new handicap-accessible ramp, replacement of a chain link fence with a wrought iron fence, and driveway resurfacing.

The Commission approval, coupled with the signing of legal agreements, allows the Trumbull County Historical Society to be reimbursed on a pro rata basis with funds appropriated in Am. Sub. H.B. 699 of the 126th General Assembly. Trumbull County General Assembly members who voted in favor of the bill include Representatives George Distel and Sandra Harwood, former Representative Randy Law, and former Senator Marc Dann.
